Super Quick Car Seat Quilt

Welcome to another edition of Finish It Up Friday, over at Crazy Mom Quilts!! Check out what everyone else has been up to, Woohoo!
Have you ever wanted to make a baby quilt as a gift for someone, but didn't have the time to make a large enough one to fit a crib or playspace?  Why not make a Car Seat Quilt?! They are about half the size of a regular baby quilt, and something that new parents won't be able to purchase in a store. Woot!

A simple Irish Chain, pieced, this time, square by square, is a quick make if pieced in strip sets.
Go here for a great tutorial. Or Here, Or check out Quilt in a Day by Eleanor Burns. You can never go wrong with Eleanor!! I used wool batting and spaced the quilting wide apart so it would be extra toasty for cold upstate New York winters. Love ya Niecey2!!

Sorry for the horrible pictures! We are down to just 5 hours of good sun and two hours of duskiness, so natural daylight is getting hard to come by!
But here is the reward!
Our Glorious sunrises begin directly East of the house, then
Do a little Showing Off, and then,
Swing around to the side and front of the house
to really Jazz up the morning. Never mind that at this point it is 10 am ;) Who cares when each day
greets you in such a spectacular way?
And when it's light enough to see, guess who has stopped by to help you prune the perennials you were hoping to keep going???
And help clean up the birdseed...
I wondered why the birds were so hungry!!!
I wonder if he knows that all of that homegrown forage is making him extra tasty??!!!
I also finished up a coupla pillow cases to go with an ALLMOOOST completed Enchanted/Frozen/Name another Movie mash quilt for the Niecey.
Just in time for my Sis to inform me that, being 8 years old, Niecey has now decided she hates princessy things, and Blue, and wants only black and white zebra stripes, with Purple!!

Lol!!!!

Have a Wonder-Filled Day!!
So nice to see ya!
Lori

  2. I'm right there with you on the lack of sunshine each day. At 11am the sun is barely hitting the tree line it seems... Lovely car seat quilt!

  4. I hope your neicey can appreciate the hard work you put into her gifts anyway. I remember going through that phase - it was mostly a "no pink" phase and hasn't really ended, yet... Your attitude about the beauty in the sunrises is so wonderful. I know I would really struggle with lack of sunlight in the day.

  5. A car seat quilt is a great idea! I will have to remember that. That moose probably appreciated you putting together a salad for him!

  10. Our group makes 32-36" squares for first time mothers who need a little help. That way the little one can use when newborn and later in stroller or car seat. What size is yours? Love the fabrics you used.

  11. Hmm, we don't have much light either right now, but we're not getting the fabulous sunrises. Of course that's probably because of all the grey clouds ;o)

As you know, I do love your visitor, and did have a giggle about the fickleness of youth (sorry!)

  12. Car seat quilts are the greatest! Especially when we are told not to put coats on the babies for safety reasons. The sunrise and sunset photos are stunning. I love the moose! I would never eat that poor guy. He should come stay at my house. Or, maybe not... our next door neighbour is an avid hunter. And who is that little doggy on the right?! A friend of your dog's? It looks like he/she is winking for the camera. I think your niece will like the pillow cases once she has them.

  13. Kids change there tastes and interests so quickly. I'm finding that with mine changing what they want for Christmas all the time! Car seat and pram quilts are a great sized baby quilt. I can't imagine five hours of good sunlight. I live in Australia where it's all about sun, especially as we head towards summer solstice. Hope the dark doesn't get you down too much, although I have to agree your sunrises are stunning.
